Sareena’s art is derived from her identity as a global citizen having grown up in various countries in the East and West. Straddling between cultures, she feels part of each but belongs to none. Her work stems from this personal experience where the simultaneous connect and disconnect with different places and cultures is intrinsic to her life. Because of this uprootedness, she seeks to find a sense of belonging — of a place she can call home. Her art essentially is an extension of this journey.

Spiritual practices such as meditation has played an important role in bringing her closer to that place by connecting her to the here and now, and to herself. This practice has been integrated into her artmaking where process is an essential element — one that induces contemplation, connects to the heart and leads to more balance.

In addition, Sareena’s art is informed by her background in industrial design and graphic design through the tools and methods she uses. She was an award winning graphic designer and has taught at several universities in Bangkok including Chulalongkorn. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design, and Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Yale University.
